ELF Studio Shimmer Palette Review

I was requested ages ago to review this and I'm sorry I didn't do this sooner! Anywho, stop stalling Alma... Today I bring you the ELF Studio Shimmer Palette. According to ELF:

"The weightless and creamy shimmers illuminate the eyes, lips, and face. Gives skin a healthy and natural glow. Mix and match colors to create your unique look."

One thing I can say about all that mumbo jumbo... "Holy shimmer, Batman!"

(Yes, I did take that picture and I am just as baffled as you are that I did.)

This shimmer palette currently only comes in one set of colors and is priced at $3 on eyeslipsface.com. I was able to score mine for $1.80 at K-Mart a couple months back so maybe if you search around enough, you might find one of these in one of the clearance bins. 

The product...

- As mentioned above, there is only one set of colors available right now. There's white, champagne, nude, and a pink, all extremely shimmery, thus naming this a shimmer palette.

- In the palette itself, they all look fairly different in color, but depending on how thick you apply it on, it could either look extremely shiny and different, or they could all look pretty much the same if applied thinly. 

- The consistency is similar to that of the ELF cream eyeshadows, particularly similar in consistency to the cream shadow in Bronzed. It's thin but very very pigmented. You can seriously swipe your finger on top of it for a nano-second and you could potentially be picking up too much product. 

- This is a badly taken picture of the shimmers in action (indoor natural lighting) and you can see that they have a magnificent sheen. This was one swipe of product. As far as colors, you can see that the pink is definitely the most different in color. The white being the second. 

- Here they are (with flash) and you can see more of a difference in colors, pink, as before, with the most prominent in color difference. 'Scuse my gross veiny hand...

- These are pretty greasy feeling to the touch and with oily skin you probably will not be having the most desirable experience with this product. What I'm trying to say is:

• Do NOT use this as a base for your eyeshadow unless you want your eyeshadow seeping into your eyes on a hot summer day/a long day. 
• The wear time of this product depends on your skin type. Assuming you have oily skin, it'll probably wear off tons quicker than a person with dry skin.
• It may make your skin look extra greasy if you put on too much.

Ways to use this:

• You can use this as a highlight of course! This would be a beautiful highlight for your face (IF USED SPARINGLY.)
  
  - You can highlight via the "C" shape in which you put some under your brow bone and on your cheek bone and add a tiny bit of shimmer to connect the two. With the right amount of product and with the perfect ray of sunlight, it will look absolutely stunning. I would probably not suggest using the pink one for this unless that's your style...
  - Going further with highlighting, use a tiny bit on the bridge of your nose, cupid's bow, everywhere else you'd high light on your face!
  IF YOU'RE DARING ENOUGH, use it around your eyes! Highlighting the inner corners of your eyes, brow bone, etc.
  - Honestly I can't really think of using this as anything else unless you like frosty lip colors...

Verdict...

I'm not sure how I feel about this product because honestly I'm not a shimmer kind of gal. If you want an alternative to this product by ELF, you can try one of the Essential Shimmering Facial Whips (I have one in Spotlight.) The difference between these two shimmery products is that the essential line one has an Orange Creamsicle smell to it and it's also rather thick and can sometimes be hard to blend out. I heard that the All Over Color Stick is basically the same way but in a solid form. 

At $3 for a decent amount of product and sleek packaging, it's not bad. Definitely not as expensive as the Benefit High Beam liquid highlighter. It doesn't have a fragrance to it (which I love because almost all products that do break me out BAD) and the consistency is slick and smooth. 

I haven't reached for this very much but when I have I used it for this: 

When wearing a certain top or a dress, I'll use this product to highlight my shoulders, prominent bony areas around my neck, etc. I think doing this will add a beautiful touch to a person's look without making them look like they have sunburn and shiny skin.

ELF Studio Conditioning Balm SPF 15 Review + Lip Swatches

I'm just going to be doing a quick review on the ELF Studio Conditioning Balms which have I've seen to have a lot of great reviews. Since I own a couple myself, I figured I would do my own review on these! Today I'll be reviewing these in the colors Nice & Natural, Peaceful Pink, and Mellow Melon as well as telling you how I apply these.

When my older sister first saw these the first thing she said was "oh my god. why are they like that?" She was referring to the packaging, haha. The packaging of these are really unnecessarily bulky. Some people have some issues with this, such as my older sister, but I myself don't mind all that much.

Sursly nao? Anyway, these are the 3 lightest colors that they have available right now. I was able to snag Mellow Melon for only a $1.80 at my local K-Mart. The other two I got for $3 each at the same K-Mart.

Some Things to Note + Application:

• These are very comfortable on the lips. I am very particular about how lip products feel on my lips. If it feels too greasy or too dry I will take it off shortly after because I really don't have the tolerance for it. I really have no problem with these.
  
  
• If you take too long to apply these they will become really greasy feeling. So, work diligently when spreading these on your lips! I had a huge problem with this when applying Peaceful Pink.
  
  
• This product has an SPF of 15 which I think is excellent. It not only is a great lip balm but it adds additional protection when conditioning your lips.
  
  
• These have a sweet smell and taste that I think is similar to the ELF Hypershine Lip Glosses.
  
  
• These can be applied very opaquely or they can be sheered out. What I do if I want an opaque application is that I pick out a chunk onto the top of the longest nail I have and I place the chunk onto my lips. Using my fingers I apply it because it warms the product up making it easier to spread out. It sounds kind of silly but it works for me! Thus I don't have to get any product stuck under my nails.
  
  
• You can apply these with a lip brush but make sure it's a short bristled dense one for more precise control!
  
  
• One very important thing to note is the fact that people have had some reactions to the formulation of this. They have noted some warm stinging sensations, some being unable to continue using this product because of it. Me, personally, I do feel a bit of a warm sensation but it isn't anything that I cannot tolerate. I'm looking at the ingredients and I'm thinking maybe it's the Mineral Oil?

Top: Nice & Natural, L-R Bottom: Mellow Melon, Peaceful Pink

• Nice & Natural is a really light nude color with a pink tint to it. Out of the 3 I have, this is the least pigmented. Just like any nude lip color it will accentuate the dry spots on your lips so just beware. For my skin color which is an NC 35 it is such a perfect nude for me. This didn't last very long on my lips though.
  
  
• Mellow Melon is a bright watermelon color. This was the most pigmented of the bunch. I had the least problems as far as streakiness and application.
  
  
• Peaceful Pink is a light bubblegum pink. This didn't work well with my skin color very well at all. I noticed that the more I spread it out on my lips the lighter the color got than what it was in the pot.

Verdict?
Well, I think these are a great alternative to lipsticks since they aren't extremely bold and opaque but they do give a great color payoff. Plus the added bonuses such as SPF and the conditioning property! What I do think is that they should try and figure out what is going on with the stinging sensation and how they should change the formula. I really am happy with these and I'm actually interested in getting Blissful Berry so hopefully I'll get one of those sooner or later.

Today I'll be doing a post on one of the most famous inexpensive brands in the cosmetic industry: Eyes Lips Face a.k.a. ELF. I have quite the collection (which you can see a list here) so I thought I'd just show my input since I am an avid lover of ELF. I'm just going to be doing a quick listing of these products and if you have any questions as to how I feel about anything, leave a comment down below! This is based on my personal experience with these products.

• Studio Lip Stain
• Essential Smudge Brush - Pretty much a much less dense version of the ELF eyeshadow brush. Skip it, seriously.

• Essential Brightening Eye Quad - Ivy
• Essential Luscious Liquid Lipstick - Baby Lips - This turns up clear and it's minty. I think clear gloss is a bit pointless and I HATE minty products.
• Essential Lipsticks - All colors - Every single lipstick I have bought have been dry and sheer. I have tried applying these on my lips but literally no color shows except waxy chunks of color. What in the world!?!? Am I the only one?
• Essential Mechanical Eyelash Curler - Definitely not shaped well for Asian eyes!

DIY Lip Palette with ELF Lip Encyclopedia Re-Panning

A little while back I bought the ELF Lip Encyclopedia but really was just not a fan of the packaging. A cardboard book with instructions of doing what? No thank you. Impulsively I decided to take the lip pans out of the book and I placed them in a make-shift palette also known as an empty CD case. After a while having the CD case with the pans grew annoying to my eyes. It was just not aesthetically pleasing at all. Thus, I decided to improve upon the empty CD palette idea. You can see my DIY Eyeshadow palette tutorial kinda thing here.

On the case is the quote "Waking up to kissies in the morning" which is a very important quote to me pertaining to Jeff. I won't get sappy in this post, don't worry. Anyway, this is the new palette that I made myself.

Here is the inside of the palette! As you can see I lined all of the ELF Encyclopedia pans inside. If you haven't caught on yet, these are not the original pans which are actually a square shape.

Using a dental pick to scrape the lip color out of the old pans and into the new round ones, then using a source of heat (my hair straightener) I was able to get it all even and smooth. This was extremely EXTREMELY messy. How I stuck the pans onto the back was with eyelash glue. I've noticed with regular glue, craft glue, Crazy Glue, it can effect the pans sometimes, causing it to shatter. This has happened to me with a black eyeshadow of mine... wooo... Buttt, I haven't had an issue with eyelash glue.

Let's Talk: Cream/Gel Liners - ELF Cream Eyeliner, jane. Be Pure Mineral Gel Eyeliner, Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner

Hey guys, today I'm just going to be doing a quick comparison of 3 gel/cream liners that have become staples in my make-up collection. The liners I will be comparing today are the ELF Cream Eyeliner, the jane. Be Pure Mineral Gel Liner, and the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner. Out of the 3, which one comes on top? Let's see.

• Prices and weight:

- jane. Be Pure Mineral Gel Liner $4.79-$6.99 for 0.17 oz./5.0 g
- Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner $7.49 - $9.99 for 0.106 oz/3.0 g
- ELF Cream Eyeliner $3 for 0.17 oz./4.7 g (?)

One thing I have to mention is that supposedly the jane. liner and the ELF liner are the same weights, both claiming to be 0.17 oz but mentioning that in grams they are not the same. Looking at both liners, looking at every angle of each pot, I can easily say that the jane. liner DEFINITELY has more product in it, excluding the heavier glass container. Other than that, the Maybelline liner has the least amount of product in it for the highest price of the 3.

One thing to mention is that all these included a small brush, Maybelline having the biggest most versatile brush, jane. having a great quality small dense angled liner brush, and ELF having a medium TINY angled liner brush.

• The pigmentation & texture:

Pigmentation:

These are all in the black color range, the Maybelline liner being "Blackest Black", ELF being "Black", and the jane. liner being "Black" as well. Funny enough, I thought the Maybelline Liner was the least black of the two. I saw that the ELF liner has a brown undertone to it, the Maybelline liner being a lighter black and the jane. liner being the purest blackest of the 3.

Unfortunately, it doesn't show in the picture of the swatches I took.

Texture:

Out of the 3, the creamiest and easiest to use product was the ELF liner, which before it dried, had a wet sheen unlike the other 2 liners. The least creamy was the jane. liner which was a tad bit dried up in the pot but previously when I first bought it, it was always a little dry in texture. Maybelline fit in the middle as far as texture.

• Staying power:

All of these liners claim to be long lasting, and smudge proof. According to the companies, here are their claims:

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner: The liner is claimed to be an oil-free formula that holds highly concentrated pigments in a clear gel base and it is smudge-proof and waterproof for 24 hours.

My personal experience with this, this transferred onto my top lid like crazy. It just slid off once my lids got the slightest bit oily.

jane. Be Pure Mineral Gel Liner: This liner contains a unique hydrating formula loaded with minerals for a smooth long lasting water resistant coverage.

ELF Cream Eyeliner: The site claims that this is smudge-proof, budge-proof and water-resistant for all day wear to combat against sweat, tears or rain.

My personal experience with this, it came off extremely easily when I tried taking this off. I have read claims of it being difficult to take off but I just don't understand why. Maybe those with drier lids know.

Because of these claims, I decided to really test it out.

This is after rubbing extremely hard with a tissue. The Maybelline liner was the most affected whilst the jane. liner did not budge the slightest.

This was after rubbing extremely hard with hot water and dish soap. The jane. liner still holding up quite a bit, while the other 2 are basically gone.

• Verdict: As you can most likely see, the jane. Be Pure Mineral Gel Liner held up the most, not only in value, but in it's claims which were the least of the 3. I really am glad I made a comparison of the 3 because now I know to reach for this liner more often, since it has been neglected as of recently. Hooray!

My First E.L.F. Order! [Haul + First Impressions] 2011

Sooo I'm usually happy with just going to Target or K-Mart for my ELF fix but I really just couldn't help myself this time! Also. First Impressions

Eye Crease Brush - I didn't expect this brush to be so small. It's about the size of a regular pencil. The bristles are a little scratchy and it's shedding a little. I know I'll be able to use this at some point. It's pretty dense.

Smudge Eye Sponge - This is sooooooo tiny! But I think this is my favorite oddly. Even though it's a bit of firm black sponge on a fancy stick I know I'll get use out of this because I love smokey eye looks.

Blending Eye Brush - This is pretty soft. Not as soft as my $1 Eyeshadow brush from ELF. It is super fluffy and it'll be a good blending brush. It's shedding a little right now.

Smudge Brush - I thought this brush would be a lot firmer and stubbier. It's soft but it pretty much looks exactly like my $1 brush. Maybe a TINY bit shorter. It's not very dense. It'll be good for eyeshadow I guess.

Luscious Liquid Lipsticks/Hypershine Lipgloss

L-R: Stawberry, Nude Pink, Perfect Pink, Bare, Mauve, Berry Cherry

LLL Strawberry - This color is a sheered out bright red with red sparkles in it. I really dislike the taste and smell of these. They're an off dentist minty taste and smell but I really just loved the colors.

LLL Nude Pink - Nude Pink is pretty opaque actually. It's a pale pink with a tiny amount of silver shimmers in it. Hardly noticeable.

LLL Perfect Pink - Perfect Pink is also pretty opaque. It's a bright pink color. No shimmer. I don't think it'll work too well with my skin color though.

HLG Bare - This is just a ton (TON) of shimmer inside a clear gloss. It's a little bit like ELF's Fairy Gloss but it's a pale pink almost brown. I think this is just sooo pretty. I haven't really seen any reviews on it online so I bought this completely blind and I really am so happy with it. I'm usually not a shimmer fan but this and Fairy are the few exceptions.

HLG Mauve - Mauve is a more purple version of Berry Cherry. It's a pale muted out purple berry color.

HLG Berry Cherry - I got this as a free gift. It's a pale berry color that makes my lips a MLBB (my lips but better) color. I already have one of these... Oh well. The more the merrier!

Natural Radiance Blushers
Top: Coy & Shy Bottom: Flushed

Coy is a really unique color. It's a color I've never owned before so I just couldn't pass it up! It's a pale pink that is almost brown. It's the most pigmented of the bunch but it's also the most powdery. These are extremely tiny as people have said but it was only a dollar and it was definitely worth it.

Flushed is a pretty generic blush. It's a dark pink with a bit of shimmer in it. The container to these were impossible to figure out at first. I effed up my nail polish pretty bad in the process. Then I learned to hold it up-side-down, push down on where the name shows with your thumb, and then pull it out using the little indent handle thing while pushing with your thumb. I wish I knew that before... -_-

Shy is a very pale pink with silver shimmer in it. It's the 2nd powdery of the bunch. There's really not much else to say but that.

Everything Else... Hehe.

Eyelid Primer - Golden: This primer is part of the $1 line. Dear goodness, this is such a beautiful primer. It's a super shimmery gold. It blends out really well. I didn't expect much from it but I really am in awe of the little swatch I did on my hand. If my camera didn't suck then I would give you one. This is the main reason I got this order in the first place! Not disappointed!

Mineral Eyeshadow Primer - Blush: I've heard so many good things about the famous ELF Mineral Primer and I've seen enough swatches to last me a lifetime. I was going to go buy that one and give into the hype until I saw that they added a brand new color! I researched all throughout Google but I just could NOT find a review on this! Eventually after enough use I'll make a review myself. I'm so happy I found this even though it was a last minute thing. I really can't describe the color other than it pretty much matches the color of the bottle but a little bit lighter. It has a lot of shimmer to it, just as a warning. I love the packaging because of how sleek it looks with the metal black wand handle.

Waterproof Eyeliner Pen - Black: I got one in black instead of getting one in the store so just in case I got a dry one I could easily just message ELF and they'd send me a new one. It's embarrassing when you have to go up to someone and say you want to return something that was a dollar... In my opinion at least. Fortunately mine was perfect. Very pigmented, not dry at all. I'm sure you've all heard reviews about it, so I won't even bother.

Waterproof Eyeliner Pen - Teal: This is a new color on their website and lemme just say it's a beautiful color! It edges more towards blue but dear goodness this color is fantastic. The color is very bold so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I think I just bought it because I wanted it, not because I intended on using it. Hmmm.

Essential Lipstick - Nostalgic: I really just could not get a good picture of this lipstick for some reason... so that is why there isn't a picture. Yup. Anyway... This is a pretty nude color. I'm not too sure how well this will look on me because it's really light and I'm really not. It's pretty creamy but it looks like it would be drying.

ELF Hypershine Gloss Review - Bare, Fairy, Berry Merry, Cherry Tart, Pink, Mauve

I'm writing a review on one of my favorite ELF products: The Hypershine Lip Glosses.

ELF states...

"Hyper, glass-like shine infused with micro-mirror technology to reflect light. Smooths lips on contact with a conditioning shine that lasts for hours. Create that natural lip stain of color that's sheer, subtle and beautiful!"

In other words it's just really glossy lip gloss.

I have the colors Fairy, Berry Merry, Cherry Tart, #71364-1 which on the website is just "Pink," Bare, and Mauve. Fairy I got by itself at Target and the other 3 I got in a set at Target as well! For Bare and Mauve I ordered them online.

Cherry Tart: This color is a cherry red, which holds true to name. It's extremely pigmented so you if you'd like a bright red lip then just layer this on or use on top of a red lipstick. It has a cream finish. No shimmer or sparkles.

Berry Merry: This color is a muted mauvey color. It's a MLBB (My Lips But Better) color for me because I have extremely pigmented lips. If you have lips like mine it gives you a very cute subtle plumped pout. Otherwise it's decently pigmented. Cream finish with no shimmer or sparkles.

Pink: Pink is a bright pink with a slight amount of gold/silver shimmer to it. The shimmer hardly shows on the lips and generally very hard. I had to look under several types of light in order to pick up the actual shimmers. I want to say it's a barbie pink but I don't think it's that. Barbie pinks usually have a blue undertone to them right? Well I'm honestly not too sure about this pink. Anywho, it's not frosty by all means. Just a tiny tiny bit of shimmer. It's not too pigmented.

Fairy: Fairy is such a complex color. At first I really did not want this because if you look at it in the tube it looks like a light frosty pink and to me that says one word: TRASHY. So everytime I went to Target I'd look at it. Stare at it for a little while and then go "meh" and put it back. Finally after enough badgering myself about it I finally decided to buy it. And I LOVE IT. It's definitely not my type of color. I'm more for a MLBB gloss-with-no-shimmer type of girl but this is just wonderful. It makes my lips look prettier than they already are (not to be conceited, hehe) and it really just does work excellently to enhance the natural color of my lips. It's an extremely shimmery iridescent light pink that I wouldn't consider frosty. It has a tiny bit of light pink color but mostly it's shimmers does all the flashy work.

L: Bare R: Mauve

Bare: This is also such a complex color. It's even hard to describe the color. It's brown but red, but at the same time it's also kind of corally colored. It's pretty much a clear gloss with a ton of shimmer that makes up the color. I was completely blind when I bought this but I'm extremely happy with it. It's definitely not a color I've had before. One thing I've noticed which is different from the rest is that it's a little thicker in consistency. If you see my swatch, it was a little hard to get a clean swatch as well.

Mauve: Mauve is a really similar color to Berry Cherry but a little more purple. To me, with extremely pigmented lips, it looks exactly the same as Berry Cherry on the lips.

Overview:

These glosses vary when it comes to pigmentation. Cherry Tart being highly pigmented and Pink being well... not. They have a sugary taste that I adore unlike the Luscious Liquid Lipsticks that have the icky minty taste. The only con is that it tastes so much like sugar that I have the tendency to lick it all off within 10 minutes! They're not sticky but a little thicker than other lipglosses. Then again I'm used to more watery glosses. Hum. Overall I love these glosses so much. I actually think the packaging is pretty cute and at a dollar each. Heck yerr! I would definitely recommend these.
